MTC Jan 2016 - U-Turn Drama 2016-01-04 18:19:12

Happy new year and welcome to the ManiaExchange Monthly Track Contest (MTC), January 2016.

In the MTC your task is to build a track on a given theme (see below). Later on, all of the entered tracks will be rated and a winner will be found.

  • Theme of the Month: U-Turn Drama
Due to New years eve your heads are still spinning, which causes you to drive weird turns of at least 180°.
Every turn you build must have a minimum bending of 180°. i.e. Every turn must be a U-turn or even more bend than a U-Turn.
    • Minimum Turn angle of 180° for every turn
    • 180° wallrides and turnovers (half loop + half twist) are allowed
    • A turn is one turn instead of two, if you can smoothly steer through it without releasing off the steering. (At best you imagine an analog input because on a keyboard you tap all the time)
    • Very small chikanes/s-turns are okay. E.g. to go around a pillar that's in the middle of the road.
Let's say the turns have to be smaller than 45°, in that case. See picture below
    • U turns have to be at least 180°. Turns that are almost a complete u-turn do not count as a u-turn.

  • Deadline
All tracks should be submitted before the end of Sunday 24, January 2016 PDT.

  • Prize
:gold: Honour and the right to brag! (Jozii used to say that. I hope anyone still remembers him? :p)
:gold: The top 3 winners will receive a showcase of a track of their choice (< 10 awards)

  • General Rules
    • 64x64 basemap allowed
    • Track-/Laplength below 2min
    • Custom objects allowed
    • Envimixing allowed
    • Blockmixing allowed
    • Custom Titlepacks allowed. But your map won't be on the serve then.
    • No PressForward, PressBackward or press[AnyKey]-maps
    • MTC in mapname
    • 1 map per author

  • How to submit
    • To enter a track, simply upload it and post a link to your submission in the submission thread.
    • You can update your map within the deadline as many times as you want.

  • Judging
We'll use the well known public judging system:
    • Everyone is allowed to judge, even players who submitted a map (give your own map a 10)
    • Every map will be judged with marks from 1 (bad) to 10 (good).
    • Note that you have to judge a stage entirely, you cannot judge only half of it.
More details will appear after submission ends

Good luck, and as always: If you have any questions, please ask :)

Some Tutorials

Examples:

The upper version is allowed, because the driving line is one continuous smooth turn.
The lower version is not allowed because you have to straight a little bit between the turns. So it counts as two 90° turns and is forbidden

In this picture both routes have a forbidden start, because the starting turn is bigger than 45°.
(for reference the diagonal of a square is 45° turned compared to one side. Yellow box for reference)

The left has a full u-turn and the right route has only an almost u-turn. So the right part is forbidden.
Afterwards the left route has a small turn that is smaller than 45°, so it's allowed.

Sounds nice since im not building FS this month :)

I have a few questions:

How do walls/turnovers count *if* i build FS?
What counts as a U Turn?
What about chicanes?

Yes, speed knight that is allowed, as you can see in the examples above.

BUT if you make the straight parts even longer, it will not be possible to drive the track in a smooth turn anymore. Then this would be many small turns, which are smaller than 90°, and forbidden.

Between the two 180° you can make it longer.

Only each individual 180° has to stay short, so that it is one turn.
See this picture. The lower (red) U turn is too long and therefore does not count as one u-turn.
