Incidentally, no-one's commented yet on my "different approach" version which avoids the painted X and Arial, but does use "MX", which seems to be the normal abbreviation for this site.

That's interesting, is it the font? Maybe too rounded, perhaps a game site should be more "edgy".

I do quite like the bottom one by movo, it looks like the X will shrink better without the black border, although it seems ever so slightly off central. it may be worth trying one with the X rotated 90 degrees?

The words mania exchange in that style might be nice in small 'somehwhere' on a new banner, maybe in small.

I have had some ideas, I'll put them up later next week when I can create them.

Edit: I just noticed your comment over in bugs about a favicon. When the MX icon gets chosen, I can make a favicon.ico file, and also an apple-touch-icon.png file for iPhones and iPads.

Here's some thoughts, using the idea of chevron arrows coming together to exchange, both in a simple version, and one using the globe. The backgrounds are just placeholders, these are to show the logo idea rather than a completed banner.

Incidentally, here's a suggestion for the forum icons with "useradmin" and "pm" matching the other three (and all four corners rounded):
