Project: Play All Canyon Tracks 2012-01-24 21:21:11
This is a project that I hope a lot of people join in on. It's a lot of fun.

So, the project?

Play through every track on Mania Exchange starting with ID 1, and post replays on every map. And of course award the ones you really liked/had fun on.

It's rather ambitious, right?

I'm already up to ID 100.

I've seen LoL maps, minis, tech maps, regular maps, fullspeeders, mini trials, and even one RPG so far. I try to finish every track with a time that I'm satisfied with. Sometimes I try to beat AT, sometimes I'm just satisfied to take the WR. Other times I just get a really good run and I leave it at that.

My goal is to someday catch up to the current tracks being posted on MX. Of course I'll continue to play a few newer tracks before I actually get to them in the sequence.

Demise»chuckie has joined me in this project. He's a little ahead of me at this point, but due to the fact he's busy training for a league right now... I hope to catch up soon.

NKAc_Street and Jarektmnx have replays posted on almost every map I've played so far in those first 100 tracks, so it's my guess they're doing this project too. You can tell from the ladder here on MX that they've posted thousands of replays already.

Why do I do this project? Simply put, I love playing new tracks!!!

And the diversity of tracks I drive means I have to become a very diverse Canyon driver. I also love seeing all the different ways people approach different aspects of track design. It's a great way to get ideas for your own tracks too.

Join me in this project and have the time of your life! (y)

-----

As a connected project, I may or may not post videos of every map on MX. I've started to render videos of every replay I post. You can see the videos I've already posted on my alternate youtube account: ManiaExchangeTracks

I'm a little behind on posting videos, but I've decided to forge ahead with testing first. I'll go back and render more of the videos later.

Below you can see the folder structure of how I've been saving replays. After one is rendered to video and posted... I move it to the "archived" folder.

Ok, this is insane :o
Can't see you catching up to the tracks posted everyday, but we'll see.

Count me in 8-|

You're right, it's probably impossible to catch up, especially if the uploading of tracks accelerates at all.
However, it's not the destination... but the journey that counts. ;)

Nice to see you join RachoVolker! :d

cool idea. (y)
online: 62 tracks take around 6 hours to play. 8-| (5.30 min each included loading time) ;)
Good luck. :p

Btw.. I mostly post replay and i play between 5 - 120 minutes per track.
would be awesome if everyone that finish a track post there replay, whether they like or not like the track, but a replay is allways a replay for the mapper to watch.

Are you including rpg and trial. ? :o

I tryed to rush true alot of tracks but that is impossible becouse i allways find a damn fun track and ends up in playing 1 or 2 hours.
And dont forget to award the tracks you like.

a simple :award: is enough you dont have to write anything just put a shiny one. ;)

To make this more fun, play agains the replay that you think you can beat. :p
I havent done that, but i know its alot more fun to drive against someone.., dont you agree.

edit: the number (x) in my name, is the track id: last played < (x) played ^^ so you can follow my progress .
iam in :d

That's why I'm not doing this online. ;)

Yeah, the funny thing is that I actually end up playing most tracks longer by playing them offline. Hunting a really good time takes time. And it's quite easy to lose track of time doing that.

SPIDER says:

So far I have. There's only been one RPG so far though. There's some LOL maps that were really frustrating to get a good run on. Some of them almost felt like trial. I think maybe trial and lol are related somehow.... something I never realized before. Or at the very least, people make mini-trials and end up labeling them as lolmaps.

haha, same. It's really hard to just move on. The really bad tracks are the worst, because it takes longer to learn how to drive a good time and avoid all the bad places... or to learn the correct amount of air control.

SPIDER says:
And dont forget to award the tracks you like.

Or at least give some feedback (if you think of any).

SPIDER says:

That's better than nothing, but most users like to know why you liked their track, even if its something really simple. "This has good speed", "I really like the jumps in this one". Maybe something that you saw as the highlight of the track... or the reason why you found it fun.

SPIDER says:

I havent done that, but i know its alot more fun to drive against someone.., dont you agree.

If I'm trying to figure out where I'm losing time on the track, I'll do that. But generally I don't race against ghosts. I find I can focus more. But that's certainly a really good idea if you want to have that multiplayer feeling offline.

SPIDER says:

I love this idea. Not only does it let people see my progress, but it helps me keep track of what id I'm on.

aleph0 says:

That's my track. But don't feel bad. I'm not good enough to post a time on it either. I had a time on it once, but people pushed me out of the top 25. If you can't post a replay, so be it. You know that you drove the track. That's all that matters. You can't do any more than that. Just do what you can. This is more of a project to challenge yourself to finish every track... and of course it's helpful to builders in that they get some replays posted on their maps, and maybe some feedback.

There are no bad tracks... just tracks that different than those you're used to. ;)

Surprises:
ID 32 was really fun to hunt

Frustrating moments:
My first clean runs are almost always 0.01 - 0.001 slower than eyebos replays + it takes me another 10 to 684813 tries to finally beat his time :-w

Goals:
Keep uploading ~20 replays per day -> ID 42 so far
Some more ppl to join the fun! (y)
