MTC September 2015 - Switching Surfaces 2015-08-31 23:00:19

Welcome to the ManiaExchange Monthly Track Contest (MTC), September 2015.

In the MTC your task is to build a track on a given theme (see below). Later on, all of the entered tracks will be rated and a winner will be found.

  • Theme of the Month: Switching Surfaces
The car should stay no longer than 5 seconds on the same surface. A surface is defined via a road type.

  • Deadline
All tracks should be submitted before the end of Sunday 20, September 2015 PDT (To give our Americans a last full day to built too)

  • Prize
:gold: Honour and the right to brag! (Jozii used to say that. I hope anyone still remembers him? :p)
:gold: The top 3 winners will receive a showcase of a track of their choice (< 10 awards)

  • Rules
    • The same surface no longer than 5 seconds.
New Definition:"A surface is defined via it's road type"
That also means that, when the physics of two roads are different, the surfaces are definitely different.
      • Canyon surfaces: GP, small road, arena platform, offroad, any vertical road/looping
      • Valley surfaces: Arena plaform, big road, small road, offroad, dirt, any vertical road/looping
      • Stadium surfaces: Arena platform, road, dirt, offroad, blue surface on the ground, any vertical road/looping, underground road, black/white scenery blocks (8-5-x),... (and the list goes on with many more scenery objects)
e.g. you can build 5sec GP, 5sec small road, 5 sec arena platform, 5 offroad and 5sec GP in a row. That is all valid.
    • Jumps do not count as surface - You can see a jump as a pause. 4sec road-> 6sec jump->4sec arena is valid and 3sec road-> 3 sec jump-> 3 sec road is not valid (total 6sec road in a row)
    • Tracklength below 2min
    • Custom objects allowed
    • Envimixing allowed
    • Blockmixing allowed
    • Custom Titlepacks forbidden - all Titlepacks from Nadeo allowed (Canyon, Stadium, Valley, TM2)
    • No PressForward, PressBackward or press[AnyKey]-maps
    • MTC in mapname
    • 1 map per author

  • How to submit
    • To enter a track, simply upload it and post a link to your submission in the submission thread.
    • You can update your map within the deadline as many times as you want.

  • Judging
We'll use the well known public judging system:
    • Everyone is allowed to judge, even players who submitted a map (give your own map a 10)
    • Every map will be judged with marks from 1 (bad) to 10 (good).
    • Note that you have to judge a stage entirely, you cannot judge only half of it.
More details will appear after submission ends

Good luck, and as always: If you have any questions, please ask :)

Fun fact: A different surface theme was the very first MTC here on MX

Is following thing allowed:
5 seconds platform texture then a jump and then 5 sends platform texture again?

The same surface texture no longer than 5 seconds - the car should touch one type of surface texture no longer than 5 seconds.
Jumps do not count as surface

still dont understand sry.....
because if it dont count as surface, its its not allowed cause you jump from the texture to same texture or is it valid cause you not touch the surface?

its not allowed to jump from the texture to same texture, cuz the jump doesn't count as a surface.

And if I'm 5 seconds on roadtype A jump then to roadtype b, its the map DQed because i didnt switch the surface after 5 seconds or does the jump count as pause?

  • Jumps do not count as surface. Thus 5s of platform + 2s jump counts as 5 seconds.

Something i'd like to know is whether the black, blue and gray stadium platform blocks all count as the same surface or different ones as they have different textures but are all considered platform. And does the stadium road ramp reset the time driven on stadium road?
