StigAcademy Series - Stig Identity Revelead!!! 2013-05-29 15:37:40
Edit:
This idea has turned into the StigAcademy series.
Check this post for instructions on how to koin me creating tracks for this :-)

Hi all,

I'm thinking of starting a mini track series where each track is supposed to give a detailed feel of how to drive a particular type of corner or a characteristic of the Canyon car handling.

The objective is to for beginners to get a step by step introduction to driving the Canyon car and to the tricks of handling particular block types.

At the same time the goal is to have simple minimalistic tracks that are still fun to hunt for best time.
Instead of the difference in the oreder of seconds people would be fighting to get a medal under a certain xx.0x time.
All tracks would have a tutorial style MT intro and GPS to show the best line.

What do you think?

I have a few themes for the lessons already, for example:

# The full speed understeer handling
# Fastest way to drift
# Chicaine corners
# Transitions
# Banked corners
# Spiral corners
# Dirt drifing
etc...

Well it's not a bad idea but it has kind of been done already. It is sort of what Nadeo tracks are for ^^ Starts out with the simplest of tracks and gradually becomes more advanced.

Yeah i understand what you are saying, but I think Nadeo tracks are always a bit conservative, they don't represent the style of corners you get in maps online.

To illustrate my point here is a prototype map for a lesson.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2191435/Driving%20Lesson%20%2301_%20Understeer.Map.Gbx

Presentation:

This track illustrates the Understeer no drift behaviour of the Canyon car.

Your goals for this lesson are:
- Complete the track without hitting any walls
- Beat the Author time of 10.45

Driving tips:
- Notice how you have to anticipate the corners and start turning early.
- Go as close as you can to the walls without hitting them.
- If your driving on the Keyboard use repeated tapping of the arrow keys to achieve smooth driving.

I think it`s a great idea.

The Nadeo Tracks are not bad, but as you say they are very conservative.

And there are a lot of Tricks, you don`t learn like:

Full Speed Drift
Dirt Challenges
Special Jumps (with a speed limit, unusual angle etc.)
Landing Challenges (on a special point or `drift landings`
Unusual Blockusing
High Jumps or High drops

I think the time of the Track should be between 10 and 30 sec. and the Goal or the Trick should be clear.
I will make a Track and post it here maybe its gonna be fun.
Maybe someone can post some ideas, which Tricks should be involved.
The Goal should be to get Training levels for new players(or anyone who likes short Tracks)

My idea is to keep the maps under 15sec
Goal is always to beat a very tough Author time
There are always some tips via the MT

I think I'm going to call it Driving Test #01, #02 etc

See the pollished example

Yeah, i like the map, that`s exactly what Trackmania needs ;)

Do you make a map pack with a special theme like dirt#1-5, speed#1-5 or mixed maps?

I tried to beat the autor time but my fastest try was 10.57 :( I am working on it :done:

Maybe you can make a goal like bronze time = beginner, silver=intermediate and so on. To beat the autor time should be as hard as possible ( like on the example)

by the way your Track review map is cool, maybe i make a review and post one of my maps.

I am motivated by doing something similar on Valley indeed, I could maybe (if he accepts of course) work with pfm and try to make this kind of map serie.
