Your opinion: Will TM2 split communities, or bring them together? 2011-08-21 15:50:43
Now, before I get into this, I just want to say that I love Trackmania in all of its forms. The series has always provided a wide array of creative capabilities and the addition of Canyon will further increase the possibilities of creativity in the tracks we will soon see.

However, now that Canyon has been released, the question I want to throw out is: will TM2 cause a split in the TMUF and/or TMN community?

Granted, as much as I enjoy Canyon, there will always be part of me that still has a place for the older environments, especially that of Island. However, there is already an increasing lack of motivation to continue building in TMUF as it is already, with several popular track builders releasing 'final' tracks and making the transition to TM2. A lower motivation to build in TMUF will possibly lead to less tracks there, and eventually the game may possibly die out one day. I remember back in the day when I was still a newbie around 06'ish when TMU was released; overtime the population of TMS (and perhaps TMO) ran dry as more players found TMU to be the Trackmania game of substantial quality. Of course, that's not to say this could also occur in TM2's situation as well; TMU provided the same environments as TMS and TMO, so making the transition would have been the (mostly) obvious choice, whereas TM2 does not contain TMUF's environments at all.

Too long; didnt read: Is there, or will there be, a split community with TM2-Canyon's release, in your opinion? Will you still play the previous Trackmania games?

Bring them together (even bring some back to life), at least while the game is fresh :p

Of course TMUF/TMNF will start losing traffic, but I think this was inevitably going to happen anyway.

Well I certainly won't in the beginning. When I get tired of Canyon aswell, then I might return to TMU. I had same sort of feelings that I will perhaps miss the old enviroments but really, after 8 years it might be time to move on. :p

As for TMNF and TMUF communities, I am really happy to see that they already seem to be merging in TM2 :d

What about Valley? I think Canyon will last long enough for valley to kick in also. (y)

I don't.
8 months waiting is quite long.

But I usually retire a few months from TM, then come back for some time etc. when I'm bored.

As we progress in to Canyon, different genres will start to develop (some of which have a head start). Authors with favor building a specific genre, just as most drivers will favor driving one (even if they do not mind others). My point is, give it time, and we'll see something just like before.

Personally, I probably will return to TMU once the Canyon craze has died down a bit and it becomes a normal game to play rather than something that feels brand new. Even with a new game where most of the community is I'll still have a desire to build in something like Island or Coast every once in a while. ;)

For the community as a whole, not everyone is going to like it. I'm pleasantly surprised a good amount of Nations users have made the switch, but there's still a lot of environment "specialists" that probably were never going to like Canyon because it's not like the one environment they decided to only play out of the 7 available. :s And I'm not just talking nations users, but also people who only played Island, or Coast, or even Desert.

I think for the most part it will bring the communities of Nations and United together, but there's always some people from both communities who will choose to not make the switch unfortunately. Still, it seems the activity here is great and I'm glad I'm a part of the TM2 community now.

I've seen so much people now on TM² which i haven't seen for a long time....even some from the old Nations days. I'm sure that TM² will unite most of us.
