It's an interesting theme idea, and not necessarily a bad one, but the problem I see with it is that Stadium is the only environment with an interesting just-outside-the-bounds area. Canyon and Valley both have relatively flat ground until you go a bit farther out, and Lagoon is surrounded by water which probably wouldn't make for a very interesting course.

I kinda share, Arkives concerns... so why not put a spin to it?

Building outside the Box:
Build on the outside of a 10x10x10 (or whatever) box.
Start, Finish and ?1 CP have to be inside the box. Maybe allow x additional blocks to be inside to not exclude FS
Build on at least 4 sides of the box.

With some tweaking I think that's a great idea :done:
Racho in which way were you thinking of having extra blocks inside to accept FS tracks? It seems like it should be possible without that addition, but I could be missing something.

How about a theme centered around user created items?

I'd say the course must contain at least three instances where an item made by the mapper (or mappers) is used. It could be three items used once each, one item used thrice, or any other combination as desired. A use is defined as any point where a lack of the item would significantly alter the course. Examples could include a simple ramp, turning an asphalt block to dirt, or even just an arrow guiding drivers in some direction. Of course, other items not made by the mapper can certainly be used, but using these won't count towards the necessary three uses.

The idea is to get people to try out the new item editor in MP4, though using third party editors to make your items is perfectly fine as well. It doesn't need to be complex; a basic ramp or block texture swap will easily suffice as a use.

Possibly - I'd like to get to know the mesh modeler myself first to be able to answer most common questions with it, but it's an idea to keep in mind.

After a long and careful deliberation and discussion (AKA a quick search through the MTC forum), and that I'm not one to break tradition, OK (y)

But really, I think that's a good change of place to the June and May MTCs :done:

What about a 2-tracks-in-1-map theme? I explain : Build 2 different tracks in the same map, with those tracks revolving around each other, like duo rollercoasters in theme park. The roads should never cross, but must be close by.

Hey Alex,

i participated in the public judgment this months MTC and i was amazed how many mappers took part in this competition and also how many great creative maps were submitted.
I would like to praise the organisation you doing here!
Furthermore i would like to suggest 2 themes for upcoming MTCs:



1. Drag Race
rules:
- build a straight forward map

- length 10-60 seconds (?)
- all environments, custom objects, envimixing, blockmixing and 64x64 mapbase are allowed
- custom titlepacks and press anykey maps forbidden

2. Bobsleigh (fits well to FT Lodecs wish ;D)
(this theme would be more suitable in the winter months i think; november - february, in face of that most players live in the northern hemisphere)
rules:
- build a map where you drive the entire route with engine off

- when using a custom startblock/item, the square in which car spawns at start counts as startblock
