MTC May 2016 - Flatland 2016-05-05 19:25:55

Welcome to the ManiaExchange Monthly Track Contest (MTC), May 2016.
    Now under new management

In the MTC your task is to build a track on a given theme (see below). Later on, all of the entered tracks will be rated and a winner will be found.

  • Theme of the Month: Flatland

The map has to be built entirely on ground level
    • This would mean height 0/1 in the editor, except for Canyon where ground is height 16 because it's rised over the canyon
    • Every block and object has to be sitting on the ground
    • While terraforming is allowed, only blocks that have contact with the base ground can be placed. This means that you can't build on the terraformed ground except to go back to ground level.
    • If a block has several heights but is tied to the ground (say Stad Inflatables), it must be placed at its lowest possible height.
    • Corner case: The platform blocks with no ground connection in Canyon can't be used even at ground level, since they're floating.
    • Corner case: There's some types of terraforming that are still at ground level. You can build on those as long as it's still the ground.

  • Deadline
All tracks should be submitted before the end of Sunday 22, May 2016 PDT.

  • Prize
:gold: Honour and the right to brag! (Jozii used to say that. I hope anyone still remembers him? :p)
:gold: The top 3 winners will receive a showcase of a track of their choice (< 10 awards)

  • General Rules

    • 64x64 base allowed
    • Blockmixing and envimixing allowed
    • Titlepacks not allowed
    • Tracklength must be under 90 seconds (Author time)
    • Custom titlepacks aren't allowed.
    • Your trackname has to include MTC somewhere (e.g.: MTC - French plains)
    • The track can be updated as long as it's before the deadline. It would be nice if it was mentioned here in case someone downloaded an earlier version
    • One track per builder (I thought this was specified but apparently it wasn't)

  • How to submit
    • To enter a track, simply upload it and post a link to your submission in the submission thread.
    • You can update your map within the deadline as many times as you want.

  • Judging
We'll use the well well well known public judging system:
    • Everyone is allowed to judge, even players who submitted a map (give your own map a 10)
    • Every map will be judged with marks from 1 (bad) to 10 (good).
    • Note that you have to judge a stage entirely, you cannot judge only half of it.
More details will appear after submission ends

Good luck, and as always: If you have any questions, please ask :)

So, are custom objects allowed? If so, the same rules apply to objects, right? Can I place blocks inside the ground via blockmixing?

Custom objects are allowed and yes, they follow the same rules. Stick them to the ground*.

Regarding mixing blocks into the ground, that's also allowed as long as they don't create any ugly gaps in the terrain (which I think doesn't happen any longer but I'm not entirely sure about that)

* Technically you can tie objects to blocks, and their height can be smaller than 1. "Stick them to the ground" means that they're in height "ground" and with their bottom touching a surface (i.e. another block).

No, as I said, you can't build on top of non-ground level terraformed ground and blocks HAVE to touch the ground. Stacked dirt blocks don't touch the ground.

Do the Stadium 7-X-X blocks all count as being on the ground?

Those are the tunnels right? Those count, yeah. They're tied-in to ground height.

Will confirm later today when I run the game.

EDIT: As expected, the 7 block group in stadium are the tunnels. They're allowed.

  • :build: What about scenery?
:build: Isn't Fullspeed impossible without Turnovers and Wallrides? I think you can't build them with this theme
:build: is this allowed for scenery? Every block has a connenction to the ground. Otherwise good scenery seems impossible
