I don't know about others but I have never posted a single post to up my rank.. When I post in for example the counting game I do because I kind of enjoy it :$

I second this. Also, this whole issue is why, back on my old forum, Necrontyr Online, I was extremely hesitant to add post ranks. I just didn't want to have to deal with the whole issue of "what is post-milling, anyway?" (Post Milling was the term I used for posting entirely just to increase one's post count, and thus their post rank).

I really don't like arguing with moderators, but this is something I absolutely have to bring up.

I'm with this too. Posting for ranks is lame.

I find these games actually help a community rather than benefit those who can spam. By playing these simple, topic-less games it helps other users whom are new to the community feel more comfortable as well as being and improving the community spirit for existing members. This eventually ends in a strong, standing community and branching friendships which will last for years to come. Not bad for the harmless fun.

I know mods might disagree with me here though I speak from personal experience here being a forum moderator of a browser game.

I don't know what you're talking about ... what the mods want, etc.

I think the rules are transparent. Threads that include posting for the sake of posting, and not posting for the sake of discussion are spam and therefore do not belong. Do not misunderstand the rules; games are encouraged. Pointless games are pointless, and thusly do not belong here. Like I said before, it's off-topic, not post-count boosting. I honestly don't see what you're referring to.

One man's trash is another man's treasure... one man's pointless forum thread is really fun for the next guy :p
I think that's the issue here, have a rule about 'pointless' threads is sort of opinionated ^^

What gratification can posting n+1 possibly provide? There's no content there, just "I'm bored and I feel like making a post." I can assure you that there other boards that would accept such threads ...

See, that's just as much of a novelty as sitting at your desk, and doing 1 + 1 equals equals equals ... just to see how high you can get. There's no point it. If you list a good reason why topics like that should stick around here, they might come back, should your argument be good enough to sway MrA. Until then this forum will stay as is. Besides, you have a bunch of other games you can play here, and they even require as much as half a brain ;)

Yeah I'm sorry for that Million topic. But as the forum is also still beta and there are a lot people registered I wanted to see how quick it goes, even though I knew it will be removed very soon cos it's senseless.

There's nothing to apologize for, as there were no ground rules at the time :)

Then I'll name a game that was locked on the grounds of being useless even though it wasn't just a n+1 thread :
King Of The Hill. It wasn't a discussion in the most strict definition, but it was not just about saying "I push him off the hill" over and over again either. I saw some pretty well thought out posts (I made a Weird Al Hardware Store reference myself).

As I have said, I usually hold moderators in high regard, as their job is one of the hardest AND they rarely if ever get payed, but I'm starting to severely question the judgment of the moderators here on MX. It's nothing personal, I just don't want to see what's currently the only track exchange site for ManiaPlanet go the way of the Yu-Gi-Oh Card Maker forums.

As for the post count issue, I have one thing to say: hypocrites. You say that the post count ranks are just for fun, and then get angry when people do start posting just to post. As I've said before, I only added post counts on Necrontyr Online after I was overwhelmed with requests. I knew arguments like this (we had one or two, but it was quite a lot for a forum of only 20 members or so) were going to happen. If the ranks are just for fun, don't even bother worrying about them. I personally don't - I think the idea of having ranks only gives higher ranked members a stupid reason for calling lower rank members noobs and lower ranked members a stupid reason to spam.

On an off topic note, the ghost page has come...
