How about a community links slidshow, banners fade in and out, with flick through controls included. banners will be bigger (to fill the space), but the overall size of the window is static no matter what banners we add or remove.

If things like these (ie which links/image files/addresses) can also be configured from the site (or an easy editable file), then that will make maintenece easier and i wont have to modify any part of the codebase.
