MTC September 2017: Oh 9! (Results on Page4) 2017-09-01 11:04:34

Welcome to the ManiaExchange Monthly Track Contest (MTC), September 2017 hosted by eyebo and Racho!

In the MTC your task is to build a track on a given theme. Later on, all of the entered tracks will be rated and a winner will be found.

Theme of the Month: Oh 9!
You are only allowed to use 9 different block types (start and 1 finish don't count towards the limit).

    • No track may include more than nine different types of blocks. That's types, not blocks total.
    • When uploading a track the blocks used must be specified in the Author Comments (e.g. 1: 4-2-1, 2: 3-3-6).
    • The start, 1 (one) finish, and podium are "free" and not included in the nine unique blocks. However, if for example an extra "fake" finish is included, it counts as one block type.
    • Sign blocks are free aswell, as long as you don't touch any part of the sign, its pole(s) or the offroad surface below it if it's terraformed/altered by placing the sign.
    • Off-road (i.e. everything placed in the F1 Terraformation Mode) is not a block type and can be used without restrictions.
    • Custom objects/items are NOT allowed
    • The author time must be between 40 seconds and 1 minute 30 seconds.
    • You may submit MAX ONE TRACK.

    Deadlines
    • All tracks should be submitted before the end of Sunday 24th, September 2017 PDT
    • Public voting will go from September 25th to October 1st
    • Results are calculated on October 2nd

    Prizes
:gold: Honour and the right to brag! (Jozii used to say that. I hope some still remember him? :p)
:gold: The top 3 winners will receive a showcase of a track of their choice (< 10 awards)

    General Rules
    • MTC should be present in the map name. Example: Simpli-city (MTC); or [mtc] Ruins of Life;
or MTC - time for dreams (check that any special characters do not break in the TM or MX track name)
    • Maximum 1 map per author.
    • Duo tracks are allowed, but each map counts as one track for each author involved.
    • The track should be built in the most recent version of the game available.

    • All environments are allowed
    • Custom objects are NOT allowed
    • Blockmixing is allowed
    • Stadium64 map base is allowed
    • NO custom titlepack allowed this month. Only the standard Canyon, Lagoon, Stadium, and Valley editors.
    • Envimixing is not allowed this month
    • Press Forward, Left, Right, or similar tracks are not allowed

    How to Submit
    • To enter a track, simply upload and post a link to your submission here:
      MTC September 2017: Submission Thread
    • You can update your map within the deadline as many times as you want. Though be mindful of replays submitted to your map!

    Judging: Public and internal
We will use a 50/50 mixture of the public voting system and the internal judging
    • Everyone is allowed to judge, even players who submitted a map, but the vote for your own map will not count (give your own map a 10).
    • Every map will be judged with marks from 1 (bad) to 10 (good).
    • The internal judging will note some detailed feedback with points based on categories (Theme [20p], Creativity [10p], Funfactor [10p], Detailwork/Scenery/MT [10p]).

Good luck, and if you have any questions, please ask!

Just some images to clarify some things and hopefully avoid confusion instead of adding it.

I recommend placing an additional copy of every block you've used/plan to use somewhere on the side of the map to keep track which ones you've already used and how many more you can choose. Delete them before you validate and upload your track.

Signs don't count towards the 9 block limit unless they influence the trajectory of the car. For example, in Canyon signs connected to the surface/offroad parts add bumps which could be used to change the trajectory. If you use them, the sign block counts towards the 9-block limit.

In both examples, the sign alters the trajectory of the car and thus counts toward the 9-block limit

In the bottom right example you finish your run on the multilap block, thus the finish is used as an extra block and not as a finish and counts towards the 9-block limit.

Feel free to ask if you have further questions or anything else is unclear. If you think you found a way to exploit the theme, ask before you build it. Better to be on the save side and avoid disqualification and tears. ;)

I see the signs doesnt count as a block if not driven on, right but does the scenary also count as a block although your not driving on it?

Nope, you can't use extra blocks for scenery. We are going old-school this month.

As much as it pains me. No trees, even if you don't touch them. If you use any block from the F2 mode it counts towards the block limit of 9 blocks. (start, 1 finish, podium and signs you don't touch excluded)

Are we doing a full month of judging for this one, or did you mean to write October instead of November for those dates?

Nope, already thinking too far ahead. Was meant to be October, unless one week of judging is not enough.
