got abit of a weee problem what do you think the word "whatever" stands for ?
is it a simply answer to yes ! depending on the ????

example: do you fancy a look down the pub for a drink: the other person replies "whatever"

in my eyes thats saying yes without saying the word yes..but also means whatever lol if you want to... the person who said whatever in the first place..

so what is your meaning of the word "whatever"

whatever means imo. either

1. i come with you and do whatever you do
2. he got nothing else to do so he say whatever
3. maybe he has a bad day or is in a bad mood
4. anyting is better than what he is doing at the moment.

whatever means whatever the context tells you.
It can have several meanings..
Translating just the word I'd say its similar to 'no matter what'

Often a person replying by simply saying 'whatever' shows you he's not interested in your oppinion or a conversation with you.

I your example I would imagine he ment: 'I'm bored and I don't really care, anything is better than hanging around here, so yes lets go.'

'I'm bored and I don't really care, anything is better than hanging around here, so yes lets go.'

Wraith, this is why dictionaries were invented. You don't need to discuss the meaning of "whatever". Just look it up. Quite a funny topic to come up though.

If you're using it in a different context than it's definition, then you're simply misusing the word.
