We can continue speaking about Mr.DVD, but he is not the only one who sometimes post more than one track per week. There are other authors who get two or more maps in the BOTW.
We all know that if a guy can get two BTOW slots, for sure is a great builder and already has lots of fans.
The case of Mr.DVD, with lots of nice maps, is not so strange... Other authors has a few tracks in progress, and someday decide to finish all (last MT details, some scenery, screenshots for the pic...) Or is working in a map pack...
Every author has is own rythm.
BTOW for me means best track and author of the week at same time.
If you try a track from BOTW and you like it, for sure you will try other maps from same author. But if the BOTW is colapsed by Mr.DVD (or whoever) some other authors maybe you would'l like won't be shown.
I'm sure the Mr.DVD fame (IMO totally deserved) won't be afected by this change. And maybe thanks to this change someday you will find another nice author.
I like the new BOTW. BUT it woul¡d be better with a "show more".

Ville says:
That's understandable and everything, but those awarders and mappers aren't the only people here. Not everyone likes simple hunters. General public is the one that would suffer in the end. The people who don't like the DvD-styled maps would leave because they got no exposure, and the community would get even smaller. I don't think any of us wants that.

Six months ago:
"Not everyone likes transition hell tracks... people who don't like transitional tracks would leave because they got no exposure... the community would get smaller"

Now we have the exact opposite and again people qq?

@DeMeNs really nicely said.

@Enai You must be thinking of NF where people were getting tired of transitional maps. From what I've seen, most people in United were still quite happy with them and the maps had evolved into being transitional as well as forgiving the last few years... basically eliminating the overcalculated part. Either that or everyone played so long that the general skill level was high enough that no one minded transitional tracks anymore. :p One of the two.

But that's all beside the point. Limiting Best of the Week to one map per author is not an effort to stomp down on a certain style of maps or limit authors. It's for everyone and it's a way to expose you to more authors. As DeMeNs said, this can only be good for the community, because more authors have the chance at exposure in that little box. In my opinion, it will only serve to help the MX community grow.

I'll say it for the third and last time, but I really think we need the "show more" button too. Because sometimes I would like to see all of the most awarded maps in the week on its own page, regardless of how many there are per author. I'd also like a best of the month button too. That was really handy on TMX. :d

I was away and haven't been on in a while so I'm going to go a few pages back..

Bucky says:
This system breaks down if people aren't logged in to download the tracks. It's like trying to judge youtube video by the number of views; it'snot accurate. You have to look at the rating.

This is exactly the reason why you need to have some sort of anti-award system. Youtube works because there's a thumbs down button as well as thumbs up button. If youtube had just a thumbs up button and you went on how many thumbs up it had (which is exactly like the mania exchange system; sorts by awards, disregarding dl's) then Friday by Rebecca black would be up near the top of the list simply because so many people saw it and enough (for some strange reason) liked it. Random video X was great but because it only has 100k views would be down the list even though it had 10k thumbs up (only the people logged in could rate)

Youtube works because of the thumbs down button, with it you can see that the general census is that Friday is a terrible video (because even though it may have 20k thumbs up it also has about 100k thumbs down) and Video X is the better video, but if youtube had the mania-exchange system it would not work.

So failing the dl/award ratio (which everyone seems to hate) there should be some kind of anti-award system, you click on the anti-award button and then write a constructive comment, this thing counts negatively to your award count. Because I know everyone is going to hate that idea because the general population refuses to be a meany-bum even if it's helpful the system will stay flawed forever. The most dl'd track will be the most awarded even if it isn't the best. Personally I love the most awarded tracks on TM2 so far but that I can predict a rebecca black track coming in soon.

Yes I know that's completely off the current topic but bucky gave me too good of an opportunity.

A suggestions a suggestion, I enjoy seeing new ideas.

Let me ask you a couple of questions about this:

Do you really think we can count on all users to be constructive when posting an anti-award?
I predict a lot of "not smooth" or "just bad" kind of remarks. Keep in mind the average length of an award, I don't expect an anti-award would be much longer.

How many anti-awards will show up just before some users think that a track is overrated?

Also, ant-awards are not very encouraging, especially for a newcomer who's just finding his place as an author.

why do you care so much about newcomers?! if they're gonna leave the trackmaking just because they had some negative feedback, it's their problem, not ours.

As I user I would prefer to have a system wich allows me to find some GOOD and NEW maps in a dynamic way.
Perfect system would be a rating system. I like the "five stars system" much more than the "I like-don't like" system. Anyway, this allow to users to diference nice tracks from craps. Just GOOD from the rest (including overlooked and craps).
Whit award system we have a static system. Top awarded tracks list remains almost the same everytime you visit the site... And Overlooked tracks will remain lost with the craps. We are suposed to test all to separate them?
Best of the week is a dynamic sytem. Every week you can find new and good maps. This is because I like it. Sometimes it apears a new author (at least for me) with fresh maps.
Some thinks a rating system will not encourage new builders to improve their skill as a builder, because if your first map has bad rating you will leave forever... Well. Think about it in a positive way: If your maps has a low rating, the perseverant builders will try it again to improve his rating... And we would hace a dynamic way to find tracks, and this will improve the experience of most users in the site. (less time to find new cool tracks...) This is because youtube works nice, and you sometimes get a nice video sugestions form the site.
You can also think that if you're not receiving awards is because your track is a crap. And complain everywhere in the forum about the new authors or overlooked tracks and leave the site forever... Or complain about the only one dynamic system we have: the best of the week. It's not perfect. But you know, is the best solution to find new stuff in a fast way avoiding loosing your time with totally craps.
We still have a problem, if we are thinking about authors... If you don't hit the BOTW you will remain unknow for the rest of your... week. So you have just 10 slots. (I don't think this scenario is encouraging for new autohrs in a site plenty of nice builders and known but anyway...) I think it's impossible hit BOTW with your first track if you don't have a few friendly awards and you're new in the site... even if you build the best track of the world and God comes to you in person to show to you his respect. (With a rating system you will notice something like this in a few days) But is the best this site has.
I'm agree with the maniac resumes almost all I said XDDDD

False. The system the system should be nothing but welcoming to anyone new to the scene.

@Demens:
Good and new maps wouldn't have much of a rating at all because new. Good is a subjective term; it varies user to user. If I see a feature in a map that really makes it good for me, may be something that other users see as something that makes the map not fun, and therefore not good.

If my map has a low rating, I hardly find that encouraging. I'd rather see comments that say what I need to improve on. An anti-award system will not do that, it will just be an outlet for users to vent something displeasing they found with the track. A rating system will not do that. It will just show authors how 'good' some people thought the track was. Since 'good' is different user to user, this isn't as accurate. Also, there's nothing in a rating system that encourages constructive feedback with a low rating.

I'll say what I've always said about the awards system. It works. If it doesn't work the way you want it to, then maybe you have to use it a bit differently. Personally, after the new year. I will be trying at least 1 random map a day. I'll post the good ones in the recommendation thread. Think about how different this place would be (in terms of what you want to see) if there were even just 10 users that did this.
