Just a little bump as a reminder.
I'd still like to see this implemented. ;)

Yep, it would do mx good. (y)

In my opinion there's nothing to implement here.
Think:
MX works like the world (yes, maybe is a bit too big for a comparison).
There's no space for everybody to be rich! There will always be some rich people and some poor people. The medium class is going to disappear.

It's impossible to have 20'000 users that get 30 awards per track. On the best of the week, you only see the users that worked pretty hard on their maps, and the users that are good to "sell" and "advertise" their tracks.
Maybe they are active on the forums, are known from the past years, are good builders, helping hands and so on.
There's no space for everybody to be on the top of the week.

So, it's like a fight! As i told some months ago, tmx it's like a second and separate game from trackmania, where you have to fight to reach your goal:
Get known, get awards, get replays and be succesfull and famous. There are a lot of strategies and different ways to obtain that, and what we see on the "best of the week" is the result of a long therm (usually) commitment.

If you are not in the best of the week, the reasons are these:
-You're not a good builder
-You are using the wrong strategy to get some "fame" and "sell" your tracks.
using all the "legal" ways to get in the best of the week.

What can be implemented`? to my eyes, nothing.

This is my point of view, and you may not agree, but this is how the system here works.

As a courtesy to other authors I never post more than one track a week (the exception was my first two maps on MX). My tracks usually end up in BoTW these days, so I try to be careful about how often I post.

Someday Mr.DvD is going to have all 10 slots in Best of the Week and this discussion is gonna go to the next level. Who knows, it might be next week. lol

I like his tracks, I think they deserve the awards they get. But it does push other authors that might have made it into that list off the page. It's too bad. I guess the thing we have to each decide for ourselves is this: Is "best of the week" about "best author of the week" or is it really "best tracks of the week" regardless of who made them. In the latter case, it doesn't matter if Mr.DvD has 4 tracks there, because they're all different tracks.

Well eyebo, here you got a point about MrDvd.
As you can see, he built mainly minis, series and so. These are extremely addicting hunters, but i woudln't say that these are quality tracks. So, for a normal and hard worked track, it shouldn't be hard to get more awards (if it's well built ofc). (No offense or any kind of complaints to the quality of the maps of Mr.Dvd).

About the best autor of the week, i think it will be pretty useless, because people want to play and download tracks and not see who's the best autor of the week (because this will be really focused on the fame of the builder and no more on the quality of the maps).
If the activity here at MX is going to increase, a bigger window for best of the week can be really cool.
Actually, there is not enough activity to see more maps in the best of the week.

I hope you get my point :)

I'd like to suggest a hybrid:
At first glance, 10 tracks from 10 different authors will be on the botw list. But there's a little indicator near the author's name that shows that he has other tracks that qualify for the list (more popular than the track that's last on the list of 10). Roll over this indicator, and you'll see what other track(s) this guy has made that qualify for botw. This way, there's room for 10 different authors each potentially with multiple tracks all in botw.

It's a simple idea that just popped into my head. I'm interested to see what you guys think.

I like it :) so BOTW will only show one best track by author, and when you click on indicator, there's submenu with other tracks by that author shown. right?

Nice idea, i like it, but this won't help the people that can't get to the Botw.. And then we come again to my point (said above).

the entry level certainly would be lower and the ones getting no attention will have a better shot at it by maybe just needing 5 awards instead of 8. maybe it's not a big difference, but I think it's a good idea at least :)
also, I think just showing one track per author in the botw supports map makers that take their time to create something special and weaken those that 'spam' MX with half-arsed tracks (if that's the case for everyone releasing tracks on a frequent level is besides the point) and maybe encourage them to spend more time on creating a track.
@deja: although i agree with your MX/World comparision, it doesnt mean that we shouldn't at least try to make it a better place 8-|

On tmx we had a useful feature and I think it is also here.
In the newest tracks window it only shows 1 track per author.
But when you click 'show more' and list all newest tracks it's no longer filtered.

So why not have the same for the BOTW list?
I don't understand anyway why there is no button to search for more tracks. If I want to search for tracks from rank 11 how can I do this?
This is pretty elitist already and then to top it the top 10 gets cut because one guy is in there with 3, 5, 7 maps.

I had to laugh when I read dejavu's post. (Although I know you're not the only one thinking this way.)
Man, this is not 'real life', this is a game and supposed to be fun. People play games to get away from real life and it's stress and business competition.
If that was your goal you could just keep on working and gain something real from it, not some useless anonymous internet-fame. ;)

And see it from the other site. This site is not just for the authors ego, it is also for the players who are looking for tracks to play. And it limits the variation and keeps them away from other authors and tracks that they could discover if the botw list wasn't clogged by several tracks from one single author.

So one way to satisfy both sides would be to show only one track per author and to add a button at the bottom of the botw-list 'show more' or 'show all'. When you click it you see an unfiltered list of all tracks listed by awards.

We'd have more diversity in the botw, would give 'unknown' authors (or simply those with a smaller friends-network) a chance to get into the list and could still see the 'real' botw with just a click.

A win win situation.
